Youth Girls

AFL is a great way for girls to make new friends, keep active and learn new skills while having a whole lot of fun. Female football continues to grow at a rapid rate. With Newtown’s participation, accessing girls only teams locally is easier than ever.

In 2020 there is an opportunity to join the following Newtown teams:

U10 players must turn 9 or 10 in 2020 (born in 2011 or 2010)

U12 players must turn 11 or 12 in 2020 (born 2009 or 2008)

U14 players must turn 13 or 14 in 2020 (born 2007 or 2006)

U18 players must turn 16, 17 or 18 in 2020 (born 2004, 2003 or 2002)

The Youth Girls competition is tailor made for players of all abilities and aspirations for both the fiercely competitive and those with a more relaxed approach. It provides girls with the opportunity to play the game in an all-girls competition at a mixed club. They play a modified game, depending on the age group that reduces contact and encourages them to have fun and learn how to play. Most players who start with us don’t have any experience.

We work together with the highly successful Newtown Breakaways Club in the AFL Sydney Women’s competition to create pathways from junior girls AFL to senior women’s AFL within the local area and promote a community football culture.
